Is a deformity that affects the big toe
Hallux valgus, also known as a bunion, is a deformity that affects the big toe, causing it to deviate toward the second toe, accompanied by a bony protrusion on the inner side of the foot. This condition results from genetic factors, foot structure abnormalities such as flat feet, or wearing inappropriate footwear like tight shoes or high heels. It may worsen due to arthritis or injuries.
Hallux valgus often causes chronic pain due to continuous pressure on the joint, especially while walking or wearing shoes, along with discomfort or inflammation in the affected area. Treatment includes wearing properly fitted shoes, using orthotic insoles and toe alignment devices to relieve pressure, and undergoing physical therapy. In severe cases, surgical intervention may be necessary to correct the deformity.
